Polaris Translation provides a friendly, personal service. Here are a few background
facts so you know who is working on your translation.
I have studied modern languages for fourteen years, gaining a BA (Hons) in Russian
Studies at the University of Leeds in 2001. My second year was spent in the Centre for
International Education at the Moscow State University. I studied a variety of subjects
at Leeds giving me a thorough insight into Russian life, history and culture. In my
fourth year I spent a study period in the Centre for Russian Language and Culture at
the University of St Petersburg and focused my studies on translation.
In 2002 I was awarded an MA in Translation and Linguistics from the University of
Westminster, an establishment noted for founding the first postgraduate translation
course in the UK. At Westminster I studied Russian, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish
Translation as well as technical writing, linguistics, science and technology.
During my studies I translated Danish, Czech, Dutch and Russian texts for Linguists
for Business Ltd.
I now work as a freelance translator concentrating on Russian and Scandinavian
languages. Specialising in these languages has enabled me to gain greater insight into
the cultural and social backgrounds of these countries - essential knowledge for any
translator.
